CloudSpokes Challenges (on Rails!)

OVERVIEW

CODE

Using the results from our REST API challenges, we’d like to port the “challenges” part of our CloudSpokes site to Ruby on Rails. These pages include but are not limited to challenges, challenge details, challenge registrants and leaderboard.

To help you get going, we have set up a shared Developer org pre-populated with data. There is also a rails app (the results from our CloudSpokes Static Website with Ruby on Rails challenge) that is to be used as a starter app, as well as documentation on our REST APIs.

This challenge is eligible for double prize money for first time winners.

REQUIREMENTS

To get started, fork our existing CloudSpokes (on Rails!) application (Ruby 1.9.2 and Rails 3.1) from this GitHub repo. See this Google Doc to for the pages to be ported and details. The goal is to replicate the look and functionality as closely as possible for the new rails app. Use the CloudSpokes REST APIs to access data in the shared Developer org (credentials below). The “Cool Ruby Challenge” has the most sample data. Host your final application on Heroku or Cloud Foundry.

Our API are not fully baked. If you are not able to implement something (field is missing, parameter doesn’t work correctly, etc.) please post it to the discussion board and also note it in your submission. If there is a way you can mock up the functionality/data and work around it, that would be preferable. You will not be penalized if you are not able to fully implement something based upon lack of API functionality.

SUBMISSION DETAILS

Commit your code to GitHub and send us a pull request. Upload a text file with the URL of your repo and any additional documentation and/or instructions that are needed. Please be clear and concise with any setup instructions.

Your submission will be judged by a panel of peers based upon this criteria. If you would like to request an extension, please read Can challenge deadlines be extended for more time? on our FAQ. We do not want to grant extensions unless there is a valid reason.
